Gliese 796/HD 196761 and Theta Boötis
Oct. 13th, 2010 06:10 pmDetails on sunlike stars get scantier as we get farther and farther from Sol. To avoid doing a lot of very short entries, I will be doubling down from here on -- doing two stars per day, unless there is a lot to say about a particular one.
Gliese 796/HD 196761
A G8V star in Capricorn, about 47 light years from us. Metallicity is about half that of Sol. I couldn’t find anything on its age. Psi Capricorni, which we’ll get to soon, is only 1.7 light years away. ETA: Mamajek and Hildebrand give an age range of 5.1 to 5.2 billion years.
Theta Boötis
Also known as “Asellus Primus”, a traditional Latin name. It’s an F7V star with a far M companion, about 47 light years from us. Around 3 billion years old, it has a metallicity around 85% of Sol’s. ETA: Bryden et al give an age range of 0.4 to 4.7 billion years.
