Sigma Draconis

Sigma Draconis is another of those stars that seems to pop up in a lot of SF, probably in part because it has a cool name. Unfortunately, we’re getting far enough away from Sol that more and more of our candidate stars are either going to have catalogue numbers instead of names, or at best number-name combinations like “40 Eridani.“ Anyway, Sigma Draconis is a good possibility for a habitable world. It’s an orange K0V dwarf located 18.8 light years from Earth. It’s 3.3 billion years old, metallicity is around 56% of Sol’s, and it has no known stellar companions.
