A near solar twin: HD 98618
Jan. 28th, 2011 07:22 pmThis star, in Ursa Major, is 126 light years away. It’s considered a near solar twin in terms of size, luminosity, temperature, age and metallicity (although oddly, it’s classed as a G5V while Sol is a G2V). If you wanted to create an interstellar empire centred on Sol that reached out as far as 50 light years, and it needed a rival from even farther out, HD 98618 would be a good home star for the other team.
