jude_rookIf you’re interested in designing alien life forms to live around all these stars I‘ve been writing up, check out the website of the annual Contact Conference: http://www.contact-conference.com/. Each year, a small group of physical and social scientists, writers, artists and other interested parties get together in California for a weekend of interdisciplinary discussion about humanity’s future on Earth and elsewhere.
One exercise they’ve done a number of times is called “Cultures of the Imagination” or COTI. In this, the workshoppers design an alien planet, at least one species to live there, a culture for the species, and a scenario involving first contact with humans. The results of some of the earlier discussions have been posted on the website here, providing a lot of fascinating reading and looking (they have pictures too!)
